Map of NamibiaNamibia which gained its independence in 1990 is situated in Southern Africa, bordering the South Atlantic Ocean, between Angola and South Africa.  With 15000 inhabitants Windhoek, the capitol city, is the largest city in Namibia.  Walvis Bay which was ruled by South Africa was handed back to the People of Namibia in 1994.

Home to both the Namib Desert and the Kalahari Desert there is very little arable land in Namibia.  With prolonged periods of drought it is estimated that there is only 70kmē irrigated land.

The official language of Namibia is English, however Afrikaans is popular through much of the population, as is German and various indigenous languages.

Natural resources include diamonds, copper, uranium, gold, lead, tin, lithium, cadmium, zinc, salt, hydropower, fish.  It is also suspected that there may be deposits of deposits of oil, coal, and iron ore.

Namibia's 26 parks and reserves makes it's abundant wildlife are possibly its greatest tourist asset. The most famous of these is Etosha National Park which harbors 114 mammal species.   Etosha when translated means "Great white place of dry water".  wildlife is typical of southern savannas in Africa with large herds of plains game.

There are 8 mammal species endemic to Namibia, including the Black faced Impala, several mice, gerbils and bats.  Although both the Black and White Rhino Species are indigenous to Namibia they have had to be reintroduced in many parks due to poaching.
